How a painting begins

A painting begins for me with an emotional feeling or a story I want to convey. Something I have seen that arouses this I want to paint in a way that hopefully you will connect. The story behind this painting obviously involves the little homes along Pacific Coast Highway. Ever since the first moment I saw the coast, PCH, and the little beach homes on my honeymoon in 1976 I fell madly in love. I moved to Palm Springs a few years back, but it was not the ocean. That being said I would drive to the ocean every chance I had. On my way back to the desert I would see the moon light hitting those little cottages perched along the cliffs and my heart would ache. The moon, the water, and the little houses gave me a sense of comfort and peace and home. All was good and calm and simple with the world. This feeling, this wonderful feeling of love, peace and family is the emotion I was painting……

Home …., that is this paintings name.
